"In my own private practice I aim to provide an empathic and high quality counselling service.
At the base of successful counselling is a strong and supportive relationship where people feel heard and understood and respected while speaking about feelings and experiences that might be difficult to express or troubling. From this develops a sense of tackling important issues.
I work with individuals and couples on personal and relationship difficulties that often underlie symptoms such as stress, anxiety, depression, interpersonal conflict and abuse, addictions and self-harm, trauma and social isolation.
Counselling helps to develop the personal meaning behind these symptoms to not only reduce the severity of them but, more importantly, to find new and enriching ways of relating and being in the world.
I have trained in a range of approaches and will tailor interventions to suit what is required whether that be cognitive, behavioural or emotional".
I worked as a couples and relationships counsellor at Drummond Street Services (formerly Drummond Street Relationship Centre) for 5 years, which I left in 2014 to concentrate on private practice.
In 2011, I completed the training in Process Experiential Emotion Focused Therapy at the Centre for Emotion Focused Practice in South Yarra. I was invited to work in the private practice associated with the Centre and have done so since 2012. I completed an EFCT Externship in emotionally focused couples therapy in 2014.
I completed my undergraduate and postgraduate diploma in Psychology at the University of Melbourne in 2004. In 2009, I completed my Masters of Counselling Psychology at the University of Swinburne.
I registered as a generalist Psychologist in 2009 and I became endorsed by APHRA as a Counselling Psychologist in 2014. Currently I am a member of the Australian Psychology Society (APS) and have been a member of the APS Counselling College since 2012.
I am also a member of the International Centre of Excellence for Emotionally Focused Therapy (ICEEFT), a professional organisation that supports the practice of Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy, founded by Sue Johnson and her colleagues. I am currently working towards achieving certification as an EFCT Therapist through the ICEEFT.
